We receive a lot of questions from people interested in our Kickboxing program.
Some have questions, some are nervous or excited, and some are just ready to get started and hit the bag already. Whatever your mindset is, hopefully these answers to some of the most common questions will get you ready for your first class.
DO I NEED EQUIPMENT?
For your first class, we provide you with gloves and hand wraps. Afterwards, you can purchase a Kickboxing Kit at the ProShop that contains 12 oz. boxing gloves, hand wraps and an X3 Sports bag to carry your gear.
WHAT ARE HAND WRAPS FOR?
Hand wraps are used to provide wrist support, knuckle padding and they prevent friction between your hand and the glove. Plus, you feel pretty cool when you put them on.
I DON’T KNOW HOW TO WRAP MY HANDS. WHAT DO I DO?
Our instructors and staff will teach you and wrap your hands for you before class. We’ve also created a video for those who want to practice ahead of time so you can master wrapping your own hands. Check it out below:
IF I’M NOT IN GOOD SHAPE, AND HAVEN’T WORKED OUT IN A WHILE, WILL THIS BE TOO HARD FOR ME?
Kickboxing is as tough as you want it to be. If you’re into intense workouts – you’ll find it. If you prefer to take your time and ease into it, you can do that too! We encourage everyone to work at their own level. Need a break? Take one!
Our kickboxing classes are beginner friendly and, yet advanced at the same time. Also, all of our class instructors are there to assist you with the technique so you can improve and gain confidence.
WHAT TYPE OF WORKOUT WILL I GET?
Kickboxing is an amazing workout. You will burn between 700-900 calories per hour so be ready to tone muscle, burn fat and sweat! Also, be ready to relieve some stress. Nothing is more satisfying after a stressful day than punching and kicking a heavy bag.
Your first week you will be sore, but the good news is once you get past the first week you will feel great, have more energy and begin to see real results.
SHOULD I EAT BEFORE CLASS?
It’s usually best to eat a snack about 2 hours before class. This will ensure you have optimum energy for the workout, without your stomach being too full. A small portion of low glycemic fruit like berries, are best. Fibrous carbs like vegetables are also great for flowing blood & oxygen to the moving muscles.
HOW CAN I GET THE MOST OUT OF THE CLASSES?
As with any other exercise, if you want to improve your cardiovascular condition, increase lean muscle mass and decrease unwanted body fat you’ll have to do it regularly. Two to four sessions a week based on your desire and schedule, is optimal.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KICKBOXING, BOXING AND MUAY THAI?
- Kickboxing – Focused on toning, cardio and calorie burn, as well as teaching the basics. This class is performed using 120lb heavy bags and incorporates multiple styles of martial arts.
- Boxing – Great for both those wanting to learn the art of boxing, as well a great fitness routine. There are no kicks involved and in this class. You will also work both on bags and with a partner.
- Muay Thai – More of a technique oriented class, focused on teaching the principals of Thai Boxing, which incorporates elbows & knees in addition to punches and kicks. This class incorporates bag and partner drills, as well as live sparring.
