I discovered X3 Sports off of an internet browser while searching for “mma gyms”. It was one of the first results that came up and was relatively close to my house. I called and said, “Hey man, I want to be a fighter”, and the guy laughed a little since he probably gets 100 calls like that a day. He told me what to do and what being an MMA fighter entails, that it’s a compilation of different martial arts tied into one. I came in and took a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class and signed up the same day!

X3 has changed my life completely! Besides giving me two cauliflower ears, LOL, X3 has made me the professional fighter I am today! I’ve earned a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as well as red belt in Muay Thai! I’ve also won several Jiu Jitsu competitions, as well as amateur fights and it would not be possible without X3 Sports.

My daily routine at X3 begins with an hour of Muay Thai, then an hour of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, followed by an hour of Fight Team training.  Our training together is the key to all our success! We are able to help push and motivate each other. We also help each other cut weight. Even when we aren’t fighting, we are still there each other in the saunas and definitely at the fights. It’s a brotherhood we have now, and I wouldn’t change my team for the world!

I have been training in MMA for three years now. I love that MMA has a wrestling aspect to it, because I wrestled all my life, so I have that competitive aspect going for me. I never had plans on doing this, but being a competitive guy, MMA challenges me because I just want to be known as one of the best fighters, pound for pound. My life encompasses MMA, if I’m not training, I’m watching it. If I’m not watching it, I’m reading news and talking about it. MMA is my life. I love it. I wouldn’t be anywhere else.

I’m just really happy I joined X3 Sports. To me, X3 is everything. I love this gym. I love the people who work here. I love my team. I love the coaches, without them, there would be no me. Of course, I have my family. When I’m not with my family, I’m with X3. X3’s a family to me.

My first sport was football, that’s how I came into X3 in October 2013 at 250 lbs., cheeks fat, pretty bloated. In high school, I was 190 lbs., small but very fat. My coaches wanted me to get bigger to play linebacker. So all I did was eat, drink protein shakes and lift weights, and then I got fat. In college, I prepared for spring training, and I got huge. My arms and face were big, but I was athletic.

One day, I googled “X3 Sports” after I saw UFC fighter Clint Hester on TV trained here. He inspired me to join and become a fighter. I started off with Kickboxing for a month and lost weight. The instructor said I could learn better striking by upgrading to Muay Thai. So I did Muay Thai, then Jiu-Jitsu afterwards – I loved doing everything and I kept doing them twice a day. I kept losing weight. In three weeks, I had dropped to 215. I kept coming after a few more weeks passed. I lost 20 more lbs. When I reached 199 lbs., I said ‘Wow’ to myself. I hadn’t seen that weight in two years. This is really working!

BJJ is very special to m,e because it is another way I lost all my weight. Constantly doing it with my GI on, it’s a grind and most people give up because of the grind. MMA saved my life, because I would rather be in the gym than on the streets. The sport altogether is very challenging, very fun. I never expected it to be such an adrenaline rush. After the first time doing it, I fell in love just like that.

Everything that I’ve gotten, that I’ve achieved, X3’s helped me so much. You can talk to anybody here, everybody’s pretty cool. I’m very thankful and happy that I got caught up at X3, rather than being out there (on the streets). SEE MORE OF ROBERT’S STORY ON OUR BLOG.*

“There are no big breaks. Only tiny drips of effort that lead to waves of momentum.” – Jeff Goins

I immediately joined X3 in January 2015 after running a race and after getting the race pictures back, my heart sank. I didn’t think I was out of shape, but I knew I was overweight, a weird dynamic to say the least.

I joined and jumped into everything X3 without taking a trial class. My first day was Kickboxing class with Joel Kasik. After class, he fist bumped me and asked my name. I went back the next day, and Joel remembered me – which meant one of two things: 1. He’s a genius and remembers all the newbies names or 2. I was so out of shape that I was hard to forget. Either way, the rest is history.

I immediately felt welcome and at home at X3, that was anything but typical coming for a former member of LA Fitness and Lifetime Fitness. In March, I distinctly remember observing a Muay Thai class and fell in love with martial arts immediately. Late September, I started attending Mike’s PowerTrack class. After 4 months, I lost weight and enhanced my strength. One of the crucial components of my weight loss journey has been the transformation of my mind. Mike recognized the athlete’s spirit in me immediately and continues to encourage me to fuel, train, and recover like the enabled athlete I am.

These days I’m at the gym 5 days a week, my routine usually consists of Muay Thai, FastTrack, and PowerTrack. X3 really is a family; it shows every single day I walk in the door.

I’ve lost 30 pounds since joining, and my 32 year old body is more resilient than ever. My heart is so full, and my spirit is hugely grateful for Mike, Joel, and all of the lifelong friends I’ve created through mutual hard work at X3. I’m thankful for the gym, the people, and the process and I’m proud of the things I achieved in 2015 – the weight loss, cutting 30 minutes off my half marathon time, increased mobility, and so much more. SEE MORE OF KELLY’S STORY ON OUR BLOG.*

I decided on my birthday this year that I was tired of the status quo. I was kind of fat and kind of tired, and I was tired of being tired. I decided to make some changes to my inner me. As an afterthought, I added a throwaway about physical changes I would not be opposed to. Five days later, I came to X3 Sports in Marietta and got my tail handed to me. But I came back. And I made it through and become an X3 member. And each class, I push harder. I am more active overall and eat healthier.

I am one pound from losing a pound for every year I have been on Earth (41) and I am down 5 sizes. I decide to rise daily because I never want to be the same broken down tired mess I was less than 9 months ago in February 2015.

At 41, I never thought I’d be able to do this! SEE MORE OF CHARLOTTE’S STORY ON OUR BLOG.*

I signed up right then and there after my X3 Sports tour. I saw all the energy and excitement and the classes and the enthusiasm…it’s infectious! It was a no brainer.

What motivated me to get fit is this desire to not be like my father (who was immobile in his later years). Whatever years I live, I want them to be quality. To be able to enjoy life. What motivates me now is every week, I can see an improvement. I can see the difference, but more importantly, I can feel the difference. My general level of fitness is also much higher than it was in the past.

My confidence and self-esteem have gone way up, especially when dealing with members of the opposite sex. My success rate has gone way up as far as meeting ladies and going on dates, it went from nothing to a lot. With the only difference being, I’m exercising.

My next goal is to integrate something along with my five personal training sessions a week. That goal is to return to the original objective of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. SEE MORE OF ROBERT’S STORY ON OUR BLOG*

I joined X3 in November of 2012. My goal was to increase my strength and endurance. Over a 12 month period, I lost about 10 lbs and 14 inches overall (4 of that in my waist, 3 from my hips). My body fat also decreased from 23% to 18%. My strength, endurance, and even agility has improved drastically! X3 has helped me push past my limits and reach a level of fitness I didn’t know existed within me. I love that all X3 team members, from management to trainers, provide continuous motivation, encouragement, and support. I also love the convenience and variety of classes and one-on-one training.

As a 35 year old, mother of 3 with a full-time job, I look forward to going to X3 each day…it’s my, “me time.” It’s a huge stress-reliever and the health benefits I continue to receive are absolutely worth the time, money and effort. X3 has become a part of my everyday routine…Eat clean. Drink water. Stay active. Be healthy. It’s a lifestyle. Train like there’s no finish line. Thanks X3!*

My name is Betty Mayfield-Sly, My grandson Jelani is a member at X3 Sports and attends Mr. Breon Smiley’s boxing class, (Coach Smiley I would be remiss not to share my family and grandson’s wonderful experience since joining your facility).

Coach Smiley is a very special person and an inspiration to so many kids, but in particular, he continues to make a lasting and positive impression on my grandson Jelani.  Mr. Smiley is a great role model and mentor to all of the kids he coaches.  He is an amazing coach and an amazing man in that he truly cares about the children who he trains.  Before Jelani joined X3 Sports, he could not jump rope or run very fast.  After training with Mr. Smiley for about 9 months, Jelani not only managed to come in 2nd in the 100 and the 200 meter dash in track, he also qualified this summer (2013) for USATF Jr. Olympic in Florida.

It would be Jelani’s first time on a track field, and I contribute all of Jelani’s success to Coach Smiley, who is an outstanding coach and possesses an undeniable love for his work.

I thank you, for your leadership and your outstanding team at X3 Sports for being professionals and for all that you do. Your service is no less than an A+ rating. My family and I look forward to having a successful, exciting, and wonderful experience at X3 Sports in the years to come.*

Muscles I never knew I had
Classes Taken
Straight from Channing

I joined X3 in July 2013 and decided I wanted proper yoga instruction, so I started taking yoga classes there in August. I definitely have more body awareness since I started doing yoga; discovering muscles I never knew existed within my body and engaging those muscles that I wouldn’t normally engage or even notice while doing regular intensive workouts (such as kickboxing, fast track, etc). Targeting and strengthening those specific muscles have contributed greatly to my performance in the more intensive workouts. I had noodle arms… I mean they are still small but before they were useless, couldn’t hold myself up in a plank to save the lives of kittens and puppies.

After all the Chaturangas and Downward Dogs… holding my body weight is no longer a problem. In fact I am in love arm balances! Yoga has provided me with such a sense of strength (not only body but mind as well) and greatly improved my flexibility. In the not too distant future my leg will be behind my head. Yoga and X3 Sports has inspired me so much and benefited to my overall health that I am currently a certified yoga instructor at X3 Sports.*

I began training at X3 Sports in late October 2013 at 275lbs. As of February 1st 2014, I weighed in at 235lbs. Right now my main focus is losing the weight and competing in MMA when I reach my  goal of 170lbs. I competed in COPA for the NO GI Jan. 18th. And will try and compete for Lutador in March. I always wanted to try Jiu Jitsu when I was living in Cali but the prices were too ridiculous. As soon as my buddy got me into X3 there was no looking back. Joining X3 Sports was the best decision I ever made. Love the great friends I’ve made through X3 and excited to see how our friendship will progress in the future.*

Strength & Balance to Cope with Muscular Dystrophy
Classes Taken
Straight from Lisa

I started in January of 2013 with a goal of keeping my strength, increase my resistance, focus my mind and most importantly; enjoy anything I want to do.

I love the boxing classes because it’s a very dynamic and fun combination of everything including learning how to enhance my balance. The practice, the timing and sequences, improve my strength; which has helped me to improve my core. This is very important to me because these attributes have been a huge help in order to offset my weakness that is primarily based on how I am able to stay on my feet.

The classes are helping me to improve a multitude of things. I have Muscular Dystrophy condition and it causes me to experience weakness in all of my joints. It’s specifically painful in my lower extremities.  This is a progressive condition and targets my capabilities to maintain and sometimes even find my balance.  It is for this reason I have to find the courage and do my best to keep motivated in my workouts, in an effort to have a better life.

Everyday I work on my strength, balance and resistance capacity. I know I have found a place to help me stay healthy and I feel awesome every time I’m done with my routines.  When I have my daily workouts I feel energized for the day, ready for anything and can face any challenge.

It is a wonderful opportunity to have this kind of training facility which includes a schedule of different classes.  Everyone that comes to X3 to workout is doing something different and I feel that they are all working hard to achieve their goals. Every staff member is kind and shows they care, but most importantly, they are willing to get me a tremendous experience every time I am there.  I must say I feel comfortable and I am going to an excellent environment to support me in reaching my daily goals.  I always say that the best someone can do each day, is something good for your mental and physical health.  Consistency and having excellent discipline is the key to feeling spectacular.*

Before Power Track I was doing a lot of cardio conditioning. I was on the scale every day watching the pounds melt off and day-by-day I was getting smaller but my body looked and felt like crap. Losing the pounds was cool, but I was also shedding muscle mass. My joints were killing me, in particular my knees and my back and my core were still very weak.  Heck, I couldn’t even do a pull up! Now that I think back, I never could do a pull up!?

I wanted to be stronger. I wanted to look different. Losing pounds wasn’t the only reason why I joined X3; I joined X3 to change the way my body looked, felt and performed! I wanted to be fit! -not skinny fat. Rob Jacob’s Power Track delivered fit and more! Rob taught me about strength through proper form, tempo and compound lifting. I don’t come to X3 to workout. I can workout at home. I come to X3 to train, strengthen, and develop my BODY and all its components! Rob you have done more than you will ever know for me and my family. Thank you very much!
