What is Muay Thai? 

Muay Thai is a high-energy combat sport that originated in Thailand hundreds of years ago and has grown popular in the US in recent decades.

With its nickname “The Art of 8 Limbs,” the martial art is known for its artful utilization of strikes (think: punching like boxing) and clinching (think: grappling like wrestling). By leveraging all four limbs of each opponent to fight and block, Muay Thai specializes in turning every part of your limbs, from your fists and forearms to the elbows and shoulders of your upper body, to the knees, shins and feet of your lower body, into highly effective shields and weapons. Through unique moves that can surprise and destabilize your opponent, Muay Thai enhances street fighting skills.

But as fierce and effective Muay Thai is as a fighting technique, it’s also an incredible full-body aerobic and anaerobic workout. In order to sustain the moves required to hit and tackle your opponent, it builds core, arm and leg strength while improving endurance and elevating your metabolism.

What to Expect at Muay Thai Classes

Our Muay Thai classes are a mesh of cardio and strength exercises as well as fundamental Muay Thai drills. All of our classes start and end with brief warm-up and cool-downs, but there’s also ample free workout space and cardio machines at each of our five conveniently located facilities in the Atlanta Metro Area to add to your workout before and after class as you see fit.

Your trainer will make an effort every class to provide personalized instruction so that you feel comfortable with the pace of class, difficulty of the sequences and digestion of new information. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. You can also come early and talk with our team onsite who can recommend any equipment or safety gear, such as handwraps, that you may want to bring with you to class.

If you’re more experienced in The Art of 8 Limbs, your trainer will help you dial up the intensity and evolve your training with challenging add-ons.
