Why Train in Boxing

Throwing punches builds upper, and surprisingly, lower body strength. Boxing training counts as aerobic exercise, and it improves your hand-eye coordination and proprioception/balance. In class, the trainer tells you exactly how to punch the boxing heavy bag.
Shadow Boxing is also another part of training in which you don't even hit a bag; you just punch through the air, sometimes with small hand-weights, to get the amazing shoulder burn and tone. This technique reinforces patterns in boxing training and helps strengthen your legs and core. In addition to hitting the bags, the trainer holds punching mits for you to work on your accuracy. You will also work your core through strength exercises. Another part of boxing training includes working on calisthenics and stretching during the workout. The overall goal is to become strong, flexible, and lean with the endurance of a warrior.
