Why Train in Boxing

Boxing for self defense

Throwing punches builds upper and, surprisingly, lower body strength. Did you know boxing training counts as aerobic exercise, improves hand-eye coordination, and addresses proprioception and balance? Boxing classes are set in a group atmosphere with trainer-provided instruction.
What does boxing training look like? First, shadow boxing techniques, punching through the air, sometimes with small hand-weights to tone and strengthen your shoulders is taught. This technique reinforces patterns in boxing training and helps strengthen your legs and core. In addition to hitting the bags, the trainer holds punching mitts to teach accuracy and boxing patterns. You also work your core through strength exercises; build cardio and endurance through calisthenics; and stretch to increase muscle control, flexibility and range of motion. The overall goal is to become strong, flexible, and lean with the endurance of a warrior.
